Kirchberg Flower Festival

Another gloriously gorgeous day and on the suggestion of our host we decided to walk to Kirchberg (4 miles) for a flower festival. In hindsight we left the Hotel a bit too early as the festival itself wasn’t until 3pm and the town was heaving with tourists and locals alike. We ended up heading out of town and sitting on a wee bench, in the shade, for a good while before moving on and sitting on another bench to read and then have lunch.

View from our first bench

It was so hot that we were struggling to find shade and wait for the festival to start but I’m glad we stayed put. The streets were lined with folk and there were approximately 30 floats of creations made from flowers - apparently more than half a million flowers are used for this one day. Here's some of the floats:

We walked back the way we came and got to the Hotel pretty knackered.

On the route back from Kirchberg
After freshening up and having dinner we headed to the second of our prearranged events: a wine tasting night!

Heading to the wine tasting event
There were five couples in total and we were joined by a nice British couple who were celebrating 25 years of marriage and who had last visited Kitzbuhel for their honeymoon. We had great banter which promptly came to an end when Kevin became quite animated (too much wine and sun) when talking about his son's wild driving and he smashed his wine glass over the table and it went flying everywhere, including over Blair!

Being rather tactless Blair said ‘well, maybe that’s a good time to say thanks for a nice evening’!!  We laughed all the way back to the Hotel! A good wine tasting event, we learned something about wine, tasted some good ones, had a laugh (at others expense) and got back quite cheerful!
